Delegation from South China Agricultural University visit UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland

On April 29, a delegation headed by Professor Yahong Liu, Vice President of South China Agricultural University (SCAU), visited UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland (UCD CII). Professor Liming Wang, Director of UCD CII, greeted the delegation. The 31st Confucius PhD Students Forum’s Discussion on Information Literature and Data Base

The 31st Confucius PhD Students Forum was held successfully in UCD on April 27th, 2016.  More than 70 participants got together at UCD to discuss the topic on information literature, information searching, collection and assessment, an indispensable skill in today’s academic career. Ms Qi Feng, General Manager, Europe and Austrailia Branch Company, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Ms Liyan Guo, CNKI Database Consultant for European Area and Ms Jin Liang, Assistant Librarian of the UCD Library explored the topic from their own perspectives. The Confucius PhD Students Forum is organized by UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland in conjunction with the Chinese Students & Scholars Association Ireland. Professor Xiaochuang Wu, First Secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Ireland invited the guest speakers from CNKI; he also attended the Forum and gave a speech. Prof Liming Wang, Director of UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland welcomed all the participants at the Forum.   Read more

On April 23, 2016, the Open Evening on the Professional Diploma in Teaching Chinese Language and Culture, organized by UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland in conjunction with Irish Institute for Chinese Studies, was successfully held at UCD. The purpose of this programme is to train Irish teachers who intend to develop their knowledge and skills in teaching Chinese language and culture in primary or post-primary schools and to speed up the localisation process teaching Chinese language and culture in Ireland. The programme has been up and running for two years with two batches of students and highly appraised by Irish school teachers. Read more

April 16th marked an important day for the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland. It welcomed 30 young contestants from UCD, UCC, DIT and NUI Maynooth for the 15th International Chinese Bridge Competition for college students. Guests of honour included Chinese Ambassador to Ireland His Excellency Jianguo Xu, UCD President Professor Andrew Deeks, First Secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Ireland Mr Xiaochuang Wu, directors of the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland and UCC Confucius Institute as well as local Chinese media representatives.
