2016 Asian Economic Panel Conference in Dublin Hosted by UCD Confucius Institute

The Asian Economic Panel (AEP) Conference was held successfully by UCD Confucius Institute in Dublin on June 21-23, 2016.  30 scholars and economists from America, Australia, China, Finland, Ireland, Japan, Phillips, UK and other countries attended the conference. Prof. Liming Wang, Director of Irish Institute for Chinese Studies at UCD and UCD Confucius Institute and Dr. Brendan Halligan, Chairman of Institute of International and European Affairs delivered the welcome address and opening remarks respectively. Delegation from Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics Visit UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland

On May 14th UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland (UCD CII) received the delegation from Jiangxi University of Finance and Economics (JXUFE) headed by President Qiao Wang. Prof Liming Wang, Director of UCD CII, Prof Yongqiang Cai, Chinese Director of UCD CII, along with staff members of the Institute met with the delegates. The two parties explored possibilities of collaboration between JXUFE and UCD CII as well as discussed the development and issues of Confucius Institutes. Officials from the Chinese Embassy in Ireland also attended the meeting, including Economic & Commercial Counselor He Xue, First Secretary (Economic & Commercial) Luolan Jin and First Secretary of the Education Office Xiaochuang Wu. Two other guests were also present: Sihao Xiong, Dublin Bureau Chief at Xinhua News Agency and Prof Shjian He, a visiting scholar of UCD CII from the College of Arts and Design of Nanchang University, Jiangxi Province.   Read more

On April 29, a delegation headed by Professor Yahong Liu, Vice President of South China Agricultural University (SCAU), visited UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland (UCD CII). Professor Liming Wang, Director of UCD CII, greeted the delegation. The 31st Confucius PhD Students Forum’s Discussion on Information Literature and Data Base

The 31st Confucius PhD Students Forum was held successfully in UCD on April 27th, 2016.  More than 70 participants got together at UCD to discuss the topic on information literature, information searching, collection and assessment, an indispensable skill in today’s academic career. Ms Qi Feng, General Manager, Europe and Austrailia Branch Company, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Ms Liyan Guo, CNKI Database Consultant for European Area and Ms Jin Liang, Assistant Librarian of the UCD Library explored the topic from their own perspectives. The Confucius PhD Students Forum is organized by UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland in conjunction with the Chinese Students & Scholars Association Ireland. Professor Xiaochuang Wu, First Secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Ireland invited the guest speakers from CNKI; he also attended the Forum and gave a speech. The Open Evening on the Professional Diploma in Teaching Chinese Language and Culture successfully organized by UCD CII and Irish Institute for Chinese Studies

On April 23, 2016, the Open Evening on the Professional Diploma in Teaching Chinese Language and Culture, organized by UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland in conjunction with Irish Institute for Chinese Studies, was successfully held at UCD. The purpose of this programme is to train Irish teachers who intend to develop their knowledge and skills in teaching Chinese language and culture in primary or post-primary schools and to speed up the localisation process teaching Chinese language and culture in Ireland. The programme has been up and running for two years with two batches of students and highly appraised by Irish school teachers. Read more
